Julia Smith works from her studio in rural Inverness on the banks of the Moray Firth. She makes a range of useful and attractive pottery intended for everyday use. Her work is thrown and fired in electric kilns and she uses printing techniques to achieve contrasting fine details over her studio made fuzzy glazes. The natural environment, wildlife, mid-century industrial design and the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic are a few of the things which inspire her range of unusual pottery.
