Previously a textile designer, making bespoke pieces that worked with the houses and the personalities of the families that commissioned them, Elvis
by chance took a pottery class to give herself some time away from ‘work’ and shared her magically tactile pieces on Instagram, the work was so well received that it is now her full-time occupation.
The pieces have organic shapes and echo colours and forms from nature with a quiet, but strong identity. Working with subtle changes in glazes and smoked pieces created with a primal and earthy process. Spending endless hours studying the smoke created by different materials, weather and timings.
Elvis is interested in the strength that comes from the quietness of her work giving it a timeless feel. 'Working with fire is such a natural and elemental thing to do, it feels connected to history - a pure and exciting way to work. I relish having found my eye, feel and passion for ceramics.'
Palo Santo Benefits
Palo santo, a fragrant incense found in South and Central America. Meaning “holy wood” in Spanish, it is said to possess spiritual powers. In addition to enjoying the sweet aroma it produces, some use it ceremonially to cleanse interior spaces of mala energía (bad energy) by burning small pieces and letting the smoke waft throughout the house.
How to use Palo Santo
Use a candle, match or lighter to ignite your stick of Palo Santo. Hold at about a 45 degree angle pointing the tip down toward the flame. Allow it to burn for about 30 secs to 1 minute and then blow out.
Place the lit stick as shown in the photos across the top of another piece of Palo Santo and not directly onto the dish to preserve the look of the dish and only allow the ash to fall onto it.
You can also move about your workspace, home, car, bathroom or anywhere you would like to clear the energy.
White Sage Benefits
White Sage (Also called Sacred Sage) leaves are widely used as a cleansing herb, to purify the mind, body and also to purify the atmosphere & to dispel negativity. It is also used to purify sacred items. Smudging with white sage offers the benefits of purifying you and your environment, banishing negative energy and/or entities, clearing haunted spaces and relaxing and calming people, pets and spirits.
How to use White Sage
Use a candle, match or lighter to ignite your stick of White Sage. Wave the smoke into all corners, across doorways and into shadow spaces. To maintain the atmosphere of ritual, keep repeating the incantation in your mind as you diffuse the smoke. Once the space is cleared, allow the sage bundle to either burn out or gently press it out in your heat-proof shell or container.
