We love these hand-crocheted jute totes, not only for their style but because they support a life-changing cause too.
Produced by a fair trade company working with NGOs and artisan cooperatives in Bangladesh. Their trading philosophy is aimed at improving the lives of marginalised communities by developing a sustainable market for their products. The company was formed after its owner spent years as an aid worker in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Whilst there, and witnessing young children hand-rolling hundreds of cigarettes for only 20p per day, her vision was to empower the mothers of such children, teaching them crafts and allowing them to secure an income through the production of handicrafts
As a company they believe that fair trade can act as an important bridge between worlds, fostering a better understanding between both ends of the supply chain, the customer and the producer. The products are all hand made and blend traditional artisanal skills with contemporary design.
